Ministers of Trade from the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states approved amendments to some articles of a unified system (law) governing trademarks in the Council’s member states and recommended to submit the amendments to the Higher Council to be endorsed.
According to the official website of the GCC, Bahrain’s Minister of Trade, Dr. Hassan Fakhro, stressed the importance of enacting a unified law to ensure consumer protection, the need for GCC countries to agree on unified measures to combat commercial fraud, and also ensure close monitoring of commodity prices.
This came during the GCC Ministers of Trade 32nd Meeting held on May 31, 2005 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in which they also recommended establishing a unified trademark office for the GCC countries.
