Morocco issued Decree No. 2.00.368 dated June 7, 2004 stipulating on implementing Law No. 17.97 concerning Industrial Property Protection. The Decree was published in the Official Gazette No. 5222 dated June 17, 2004.
The aforementioned law will be effective December 18, 2004. The law will unify Intellectual Property laws in both Morocco and Tangier.
The law provides protection for trademarks, patents, topography of integrated circuits, industrial designs and models and industrial awards and trophies.
It is noteworthy that Morocco issued Decree No. 1.00.71 dated February 15, 2000 stipulating on implementing Law No. 13.99 concerning the establishing of the Moroccan Office for Industrial and Commercial Property.
Consequently, the Office Marocain de la Propriete Industrielle in Casablanca and Bureau de la Propriete Industrielle in Tangier will become one office located in Casablanca providing various IP services.
Morocco is a party to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks and a member to the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property.
