01-Nov-2009

CAIRO - With the start of the new academic year, the Intellectual Property Unit affiliated with the Ministry of Trade and Industry in Egypt has recently called on all universities and higher institutes to present it with copies of original university books, whether such books were printed, photocopied or reproduced.

According to sharkiaonline website, the purpose of this is to allow the Unit protect copyrights from piracy and infringement that university textbooks are subject to at this time every year.

At the same time, the Unit aims at protecting the original author’s right and preventing others from profiting from his/her product in illegitimate ways.

The Unit’s Executive Director Mr. Midhat Abu Al-Futuh stated that the role of the Unit is not only limited to investigating complaints submitted by the original owners for piracy and infringement, but actually expands to promoting awareness on how to differentiate between original and counterfeited works through seminars, conferences and others.
