Qatar IP Regulations

The Qatari Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued new guidelines to ensure the validity and accreditation of Power of Attorney documents, along with a series of fee reductions.

Validation of Power of Attorney Documents:

Notary Seal and Authentication: The document must bear the seal and authentication of the issuing notary.
Identification Information: It must include identification information, including the number and authentication date, with the notarized document being recent and not more than three years old.
Language: The document must be written in clear Arabic or translated by an accredited authority in Qatar.
No Alterations: The document should be free from any alterations; if there are any amendments, the notary is required to verify the changes.
Local Attestation: The Powers of Attorney granted by notaries or consuls outside Qatar must adhere to these new guidelines and undergo legalization locally by the Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Fee Adjustments:
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced the implementation of Ministerial Decision No. 60 of 2024, issued by His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Thani, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, to reduce certain service fees provided by the ministry, effective from July 11, 2024.

The fee reductions cover essential services provided by the Ministry, such as commercial registration, licensing, corporate services, and IP rights protection, including patents and industrial designs. The new fees are now in effect.

As a result of these reductions, AGIP will amend its schedule of charges to reflect the changes.

This decision falls within the framework of the ministry's strategy to enhance the investment environment by developing Qatar's trade, industry, and business development sectors. The strategy aligns with the objectives of the Third National Development Strategy (2024-2030), which aims to achieve sustainable economic growth and diversification in support of Qatar's National Vision 2030.
