Order of Oman Conferred on WIPO Director-General

Sultan Qaboos conferred the Order of Oman Second Class on Dr. Kamil Idris, Director-General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in appreciation for his efforts in protecting intellectual property and consolidating ties between WIPO and respective countries, Times of Oman reported.

Dr. Idris commended the Sultan’s continuous support for the protection of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) at the national and world levels.

On the other hand, Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali Al Qatabi, president of Al Shura Council,
reviewed with Dr. Idris aspects of cooperation between the Council and WIPO, particularly with respect to offering legal advice upon studying and approving the national laws related to intellectual property.

Minister of Commerce and Industry Maqbool bin Ali Sultan, discussed with Dr. Idris areas of cooperation between the two sides and the possibility of holding seminars with the Ministry of Education, introducing intellectual property oriented awareness subjects in the education curricula and training the personnel of judicature and public prosecution to implement intellectual property laws.

Idris expressed the organization’s preparedness to offer the Sultanate all technical assistance.
