The PCT, which bound the Philippines with effect from August 17, 2001 provides an international system of patent protection in all member countries signatory of the relevant treaties.
The Philippines Intellectual Property Office (IPO) is undertaking other IP protection measures such as preparatory work for ratification of the Internet treaties, specifically the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Copyright Treaty and WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty.
The IPO is preparing for the adoption of proposed laws to regulate optical discs and cable TV, both instrumentals in curbing piracy of copyrighted work.
