Boycott Committee Meets

01-Aug-2001

Damascus, Syria, is the seat of the Arab Boycott of Israel Office. Last month, Syria and other Arab countries made efforts towards reimplementation of the boycott procedure in all Arab countries. A group of specialized and technical experts in the Arab Boycott against Israel held a meeting on July 29, 2001 to discuss a paper entitled "Arab boycott against Israel, between the past and the present".

The discussion emphasized the importance of the boycott as a peaceful weapon, which is consistent with the international laws. The Boycott of Israel Office is optimistic about this Arab meeting and expects to achieve its targeted objectives at a time when Israel is still ignoring international decisions by continuing its aggression against the occupied territories.

The application of the boycott system in the Arab countries varies from one country to another. While Egypt and Jordan do not require declarations and accept applications for Israeli companies and individuals, others may just refuse applications for Israelis. Currently only Syria and Iraq require any international applicants to submit signed and legalized declarations that they have no dealings with Israel.
