GENEVA - Guatemala deposited its instrument of accession to the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on July 14, 2006. The treaty will enter into force for Guatemala on October 14, 2006, according to a press release by the Organization.
The accession by Guatemala means that in any international application filed on or after October 14, 2006, Guatemala will automatically be designated, and as it will be bound by Chapter II of the treaty, will automatically be elected in any demand for international preliminary examination filed in respect of an international application filed on or after October 14, 2006.
