BEIJING - Resident in-charge of Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) Liaison Office in China, Ms. Ridab Abutaleb, was elected to the Specialized Committee of Trademark Agents by the Administration of the Shanghai Trademark Association (STMA) on September 27, 2005.
AGIP was the only non-Chinese company chosen to the STMA and Ms. Abutaleb was the only foreigner among candidates.
In addition, Ms. Abutaleh was nominated to the upcoming elections for the position of vice director of the STMA for the 2006 - 2007 committee term.
Out of 27 selected candidates, Ms. Abutaleb was the only Arab member nominated for the position of vice director of STMA.
"Candidates must be proficient, have a high-level expertise in trademark issues, and willing to help other committee members," said Ms. Abutaleb.
"The results of the elections will be announced after China’s National Day holiday October 1- 7," she added.
STMA, established in 1995, is a social community organized by the trademark organizations and workers in Shanghai. Its current Honored President is Mr. Zhou Yupeng, the vice mayor of Shanghai. The president is Ms. Zhang Wenwei who is also the director of Shanghai Administration of Industry and Commerce.
The main objectives of this association are to protect all members’ trademark interests, to strengthen the members’ awareness of trademark protection, to establish a database of famous and well-known marks and to promote the economic development of Shanghai.
