Trademarks Office Resumes Operations
01-May-2003
The General People’s Committee for Economy and Trade has recently announced that the Trademark Office in Libya has resumed its activities. It has initiated its operations by receiving applications for trademarks registration in all its stages; from filing up to publication and registration, in accordance with the provisions of the Libyan IP Law.
If you have been advised to refile the previous application, our advice is that there is no need to do so for previous trademark applications that are under consideration.
All the interested parties that have filed applications are required to be present at the Office. This is in order to correct the status of their trademarks that were registered earlier at the register office. Their presence is also required if they seek to register new trademarks and ensure their protection.
Moreover, the Libyan authorities have announced that the Trademarks Office has officially started to publish the first group of filed trademark applications in the following Official Gazette issues.
Annex No. (5) issued on 01/03/2003
Annex No. (6) issued on 15/03/2003
Please note that any third party may oppose the registration of the trademark within 3 months from the publication date.
