The Kingdom of Bahrain issued on July 10, 2005, Law No. 18 of 2005 approving the Kingdom’s accession to the Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks of 1989, and Law No. 19 of 2005 approving the Kingdom’s accession to the Patent Law Treaty of 2000 and its Implementing Regulations.
Both laws were issued in a special appendix in the Official Gazette No. 2695 published on July 13, 2005.
Ratification of the Patent Law Treaty will require amending the Implementing Regulations of the Bahraini Patent Law No. 1 of 2004 published in the Official Gazette No. 2619 dated January 28, 2004.
However, the Implementing Regulations for the said patent law have not yet been issued.
Filing of patent applications at the Directorate of Industrial Property at the Ministry of Commerce in Bahrain ceased in May 2004, due to the non-issuance of the said Regulations.
The Implementing Regulations are being debated in the parliament and are expected to be issued soon.
