AGIP Executive Director Selected to MINC New Board of Directors

Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) Regional Office Executive Director, Mr. Charles Sha’ban, has recently been selected to the Multilingual Internet Names Consortium (MINC) new Board of Directors.

After soliciting nominations from around the world, the MINC Nominating Committee, which is responsible for the selection of all MINC’s Board of Directors’ members, selected a stellar group of individuals each committed to make Internet access feasible for all people in their own native language.

Nomination period commenced on February 1, 2005 and closed on March 30, 2005. The Board shall sit for a period of two years.

"The new MINC Board will endeavor to make the Internet truly multilingual by empowering and enabling local citizens to access it in their own native languages and to achieve the MINC objective of breaking the language barrier of the Internet that has kept 75% of the global population left out because they do not speak English," said Mr. Sha’ban.

The new eight-member MINC Board includes four new members: Mr. Geir Rasmussen, CEO of GNR Ltd; Dr. Bruno Lanvin, senior advisor, the World Bank; Mr. Jean-François C. (Jefsey) Morfin, chair of INTLNET, and Mr. Kangsik Cheon, member of the United Nations Working Group on Internet Governance (WGIG).

Meanwhile, the other four members are: Mr. Khaled Fattal, MINC’s current chairman and CEO, Mr. Charles Sha’ban, Prof. S. Subbiah, chairman of i-DNS Inc, and Prof. Tan Tin Wee.
