UAEnic Offers a 50-year Registration Term for .ae

31-May-2005

The United Arab Emirates Network Information Center (UAEnic) announced on June 9, 2005, the launch of a 50-year registration period for .ae domain names. The launch is considered the latest in a series of initiatives taken by UAEnic to encourage companies and individuals in the UAE to register their domain names.

"It is very important to protect clients’ intellectual property rights and their digital identity. With the help of the 50-year domain name registration period, clients will be able to prevent the expiry of the domain name in addition to getting a highly discounted rate in the case of a long registration period," said Mr. Abdullah Hashim, manager of UAEnic.

The associated problems of losing the website and the non-delivery of mails are frequent outcomes of an expired domain name. Paying a one-time fee for a longer registration period will solve all such issues.

Both local and multinational companies can now register their domain name through UAEnic. The registration policy is backed up by a strong legal framework to protect the rights of clients.

UAEnic has also adopted the Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy, which is a strong dispute resolution policy endorsed by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to resolve most types of trademark-based domain-name disputes.

The number of domain names registered in the UAE has increased sharply. It has gone up by 166% this year compared with the same period in 2002.

UAEnic also offers long registration periods of 3 and 10 years for other sub-domains, such as .gov.ae, .mil.ae, .sch.ae, .ac.ae, and .org.ae, so that organizations with these domain names can keep them for a longer period.

UAEnic is the authority which manages domain name registration under .ae Top Level Domain in the UAE. Last January, UAEnic liberated the .ae domain and allowed commercial entities to register domain names under the .ae address instead of the existing registration .co.ae address.
