Kuwait Voices Commitment to IPRs Protection Agreements

09-May-2005

Kuwaiti Information Minister, Dr. Anas Al-Rushaid, voiced Kuwait’s commitment to agreements pertinent to protecting intellectual property rights (IPRs), Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.

During the First Forum on Intellectual Property (IP) held on May 9, 2005, the Minister said a writer or an intellect should have exclusive rights for his creativity, stressing the importance of respecting relevant laws to defend Kuwait’s economic interests and reputation.

The Minister added that the Ministry of Information does not spare any effort to enforce laws related to IP protection and to cooperate with the Ministries of Trade and Industry (MTI) and Interior, or the Kuwait Municipality to that end.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ibrahim Al-Noah, the Information Ministry’s assistant under-secretary for Press and Publications Affairs, pointed out that the Ministry has doubled its efforts in cracking down on individuals and firms violating such laws or carrying out intellectual piracy acts.

The forum brought together several government and private bodies, such as the MTI, the Ministry of Interior, the Customs Department, the Kuwait Ports Authority, the Kuwait Lawyers’ Society, and Kuwait University.
