Under the patronage of HE the Palestinian Prime Minister Mr. Ahmed Qurei, the Palestinian National Internet Naming Authority (PNINA) officially launched the Palestinian Top Level Domain .ps in a ceremony held on April 4, 2005, PNINA.ps reported.
The ceremony, held at the Cultural Palace in Ramallah, was attended by Dr. Sabri Saidam, Minister of Telecom and Information Technology (MTIT), other Palestinian ministers, Legislative Council members, diplomatic representatives, international organizations, and IT companies in Palestine.
Along with the domain .ps, PNINA also launched the second Top Level Domain .kids.ps. This domain will be available for registration by all Palestinian children under 18 for free.
PNINA’s new portal, www.kids.ps, will enable Palestinian children to register a domain name for themselves under kid’s.name.kids.ps for free. It will also provide them with an e-mail address, the ability of redirecting the web address and e-mail to an already existing one, the ability to communicate with other members through a private messaging system, the ability to check child-related activities through the children calendar, various online collaborative services that encourage the kids to wisely utilize Internet resources, and the possibility for Palestinian children’s organizations to add free advertisements on the portal for the benefit of the Palestinian children.
In its efforts to spread the usage of the Palestinian identity in cyberspace, PNINA announced several initiatives that aim at boosting the registration under the .ps, including free registration for all Palestinian schools, as well as higher education institutions under sch.ps and edu.ps.
PNINA will be providing all software systems related to domain name registration, ensuring that they reflect the Palestinian achievements in the communication and information sector and that they are up to the expected level.
Meanwhile, professional domains such as doctors.ps, lawyers.ps, and writers.ps will be available for free to meet the various needs of the Palestinian sectors.
PNINA is registering .ps domain names through more than 20 certified registrars from Palestine and around the globe.
Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) is a certified .ps registrar that started .ps registration services in early 2004 when it was first provided by PNINA.
