Implementing Regulations Related to IP Law No. 82 Issued in Egypt

The Egyptian Prime Minister, Mr. Ahmad Nazif, issued on April 14, 2005, a decision stipulating the issuance of the implementing regulations for Book Three related to Copyright and Related Rights of Law No. 82 of 2002 pertaining to the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights.

The implementing regulations stipulate establishing an office for the protection of computer software and databases in the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT).

Moreover, they stipulate establishing an office for broadcasting organizations in the Ministry of Information and a Copyright Office in the Ministry of Culture.

The implementing regulations for Books One, Two, and Four of Law No. 82 of 2002, were issued by a ministerial decree on August 16, 2003.
Law No. 82 of 2002 pertaining to the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights was issued on June 2, 2002. The law protects trademarks, commercial data, geographical indications, patents of invention, utility models, layout designs of integrated circuits, undisclosed information, industrial designs and models, copyright and related rights, and plant varieties.
