The President of Pakistan promulgated the Pakistan Intellectual Property Rights Organization Ordinance on April 8, 2005, the Daily Times reported.
The organization shall administer and coordinate all government systems responsible for the protection of intellectual property rights (IPRs) under the laws and regulations pertinent in Pakistan, regulate or implement measures and standards on any matter related to IP, and accredit or certify any person as an IP agent.
Furthermore, the organization aims to enhance and upgrade the infrastructure of IP in Pakistan, promote awareness about IP issues in the public and private sectors, and monitor enforcement of IP in Pakistan.
Finally, it shall supervise and coordinate the working of all IP offices in Pakistan, including the Patent Office, Trademark Registry, and Copyright Office.
