Protecting Intellectual Property by Issuing Letters-patent

Dr. Fawzi Refai, Head of Scientific Research Academy, said that the calling of Patents Office is represented in protecting the rights of intellectual property for the inventors through issuing Letters-patent. This protects the rights of the inventors whether they are Egyptians or foreigners.
Dr. Fawzi pointed out to the collaboration between the Office and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and he also pointed out to the development plans, which aim at qualifying employees and training them on computer and English language. He indicated that a website for Patents Office (www.egypo.gov.eg) has been established. He also stated that the number of patents registered in the Office since its establishment in 1950 till 2002 amounted 22,000 patents. Dr. Hesham Deeb, a Doctor in the Electronics Institute and the Patents Office Supervisor stated that the Patents Office is the only Office in which search is conducted in Arabic and English languages.
Dr. Ola Wajeeh Laurence, the Manager of the National Information Network, said that such Network contains more than 500 databases and they are in continuous upgrading. She also pointed out to the Network's cooperation with a Medical Center for Tumors in Domiat and Aqsor, where free of charge medical counsel is provided once a week through the following website www.sti.sci.eg. The Network also issues a periodical in which it presents the latest medical, engineering and scientific developments in Egypt.
