Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) Regional Office Executive Director, Mr. Charles Sha’ban, has recently participated in the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) Sixth Annual Meeting held in Cape Town, South Africa, December 1-5, 2004.
Over 735 participants from 91 countries participated in the meeting, which brought together technical and industry leaders, Internet users from Africa and around the world, ministers and governmental representatives.
Mr. Sha'ban, one of the panelists in the workshop on World Summit on Information Society (WSIS), discussed the proposal of Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, which he presented at the UN ICT TF Forum in Berlin November 19, 2004, on Internet Governance.
Mr. Sha'ban also tackled, during the Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) workshop, several key issues related to intellectual property and IDNs policy.
He also participated in the country-code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO) Council Meeting. Recently, Mr. Sha'ban was selected by ICANN Nominating Committee (NomCom) to be a member of the ccNSO Council for a three-year term, which has already started, and will end in 2007.
AGIP is currently an active member of the ICANN Business, Registrar and Intellectual Property Constituencies. Mr. Sha'ban chaired the ICANN Intellectual Property Constituency (IPC) Internationalized Domain Names (IDN) Working Group during 2003.
