Trademark Recordation with Abu Dhabi Customs Will be Introduced
14-Aug-2016
ABU DHABI - Abu Dhabi Customs Authority has announced that as a part of its effort to compact counterfeit products, and tighten Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) protection and enforcement at the UAE, it has adopted the trademark recordation service, and will start accepting the recordation applications from the owners of trademarks or their agents as from August 21, 2016.
In this relation, Ajman Customs Authority has implemented the trademark recordation service few months ago. It is worth mentioning that this service has already been implemented in Dubai, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah few years ago.
The recordation procedures are very simple and no further documents are necessary to be provided, other than certified copy of the registration certificate, and a specimen of the mark, as currently used on the products. However, if the recordation application will be filed through agent, a power of attorney and a letter from the owner authorizing the agent to record the trademark with Abu Dhabi Customs are required.
