Special committees to look into the business of counterfeit products and issue immediate rulings were among the recommendations adopted at the “Third Symposium for Combating Commercial Fraud & Counterfeiting in GCC Countries,” Gulf News reported.
Opened by Prince Sattam Bin Abdul Aziz, the deputy governor of Riyadh, the Symposium was held September 20 - 21, 2004, at the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce & Industry (RCCI).
The Symposium aimed at implementing plans, measures and recommendations formulated to combat commercial fraud; spreading awareness of the effects of commercial fraud on consumers and national economy; and supporting the efforts of the organizations concerned with fighting commercial fraud & counterfeiting in the GCC countries.
Delegates from the six GCC states of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman issued a number of proposals seeking action to tackle the growing problem of trade in fake products, which is costing GCC businesses millions of dollars annually.
