The resident-in-charge of Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) China Office, Ms. Ridab Abutaleb took part in the 13th Sino-Japan Intellectual Property Seminar held in Foshan, Guangdong Province, China, September 20 - 21, 2004.
The Seminar was hosted by the All China Patent Agent Association, Licensing Sponsor Society of Japan IP Association for the Promotion of International Trade, and Guangdong Intellectual Property Society.
The Seminar included keynote speakers from different IP organizations and societies such as: Gao Luling, President of All-China Patent Agents Association, Satoshi Nakajima, Head of Japanese Delegation, Li Yuguang, Vice-Head of the State Intellectual Property Office, and Guo Xiquan, the President of Guangdong Intellectual Property Society and many others.
Participants took a more comprehensive look at the Japanese judicial system, giving examples of recent legal cases in Japan. Judicial protection of patents was also tackled.
Representatives from Mitsubishi and Toyota, two of the biggest companies in Japan, discussed IP management methods related to industry with extra focus on the modern technology’s fast development and cases of new inventions, which can be only realized through groups of companies working as innovative consortia.
Meanwhile, representing AGIP China Office, Ms. Selime Ma, participated in a three-day training seminar held September 7-9, 2004 on the Provisions for Identification and Protection of Well-Known Trademarks hosted by the Shanghai Trademark Association in Zhuji, Zhejiang Province, China.
Basic content of Provisions for Identification and Protection of Well-Known Trademarks, and primary requirements and approaches for enterprises to apply for well-known trademarks was tackled in the Seminar. In addition to forming a starting point for the harmonization of the domestic laws and regulations regarding the recognition and protection of well-known trademarks.
Another session dealt with the procedures for the court to recognize well-known trademarks and the emphasis on what the enterprises should take into consideration during the process of applying. Moreover, emphasizing on the challenges of spreading awareness amongst public authorities, manufacturers and consumer associations about the importance of providing adequate protection of Intellectual Property Rights.
