Syrian President Bashar Al- Assad has issued Decree No. 16 for 2004, stipulating that the Syrian Arab Republic will join the Convention Establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The Decree was published in the Official Gazette No. 25 dated May 30, 2004.
WIPO Convention was signed in Stockholm July 14, 1967 and amended September 28, 1979. The Convention regulates various aspects related to establishing the WIPO. It encourages creative activity and promotes the protection of intellectual property throughout the world.
It also seeks to modernize and render more efficient the administration of the Unions established in the fields of the protection of industrial property and the protection of literary and artistic works, while fully respecting the independence of each of the Unions.
