Now Accepted in Syria:Copyright Applications

01-Mar-2003

Starting from January 2003, the Syrian Copyright Protection Department (CPD) began accepting copyright applications.

While it has become possible to apply for a copyright registration the official fees are to be paid in a later stage, determined by the issuance of the official list of fees.

The application requirements of a copyright registration in Syria are:

-  A notarized Power of Attorney in favor of AGIP Office in Syria.

-  Personal data of the author. (Copy of his ID or passport is required)

- Triplicate copies of the work made on CDs. (Within 5 mm lid boxes)

- A declaration that the copyright is created by the work owner and is not illegally quoted. (Undertaking form will be available at the CPD in the very near future)

- Assignment deed by the copyright work author in the name of the applicant, in case the applicant is not the author.

- A proof that the copyright work shall be published within three years from the filing date. Failure to submit that proof shall result in considering the work void.

However, since copyright regulations in Syria are still evolving, changes and new requirements should be expected every now and then.

At this point, the charges of our services (official fees not included) shall be US$ 200.00 for filing each copyright application.
