Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) Becomes a Member of the Intellectual Property Constituency (IPC)

At the ICANN Board of Directors meetings held in Marina Del Rey, California, during the period November 13-17,2000, AGIP, represented by Mr. Luay Abu-Ghazaleh, joined the Intellectual Property Constituency (IPC) the Arab Society for Intellectual Property (ASIP) applied for membership as a regional organization. The Intellectual Property Constituency is one of DNSO constituencies (such as the Business Constituency), but it represents the intellectual property sector.

IPC Mission Statement:
A.The IPC is an integral part of the DNSO according to Article VI-B, Section 3 of the ICANN Bylaws.
B.The purposes of the IPC are to:
i.Represent the views and interests of users of intellectual property world-wide with particular emphasis on trademark, copyright, and related intellectual property rights and their effect and interaction with the Domain Name System (DNS), and to ensure that the views, including minority views, are reflected in the recommendations made by the Names Council to the Board of ICANN; and
ii.More particularly, to review and raise all IP matters including any proposals, issues, legislation, or otherwise, which may affect intellectual property, particularly as it interfaces with the DNS, and to provide to the DNSO and the ICANN Board timely and expert advice before it must make any decision or take any position thereon.


Abu- Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) Applies to be the First Approved Registrar of Arab AND International Domain Names (gTLD Registrar)
Mr. Charles Sha'ban, IT Manager at Talal Abu-Ghazaleh International and Chairman of the Internet Committee at the Arab Knowledge Management Society indicated that Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP), a subsidiary of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh International, applied to ICANN to be approved as a registration center for Arab and international domain names. It is expected that this approval will be granted during the few forthcoming weeks.

Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) Registers Domain Names in all Languages as an Agent
Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property, in its capacity as agent for domain names at country codes level (ccTLD) started registering these domain names for its clients in various world countries, and in all languages.

Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property has acted as an agent in registering ccTLDs (Country Code Top Level Domains) in the world for its clients and in different languages.

Initially AGIP began with registrations of domain names in the Arab Countries( in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia) in 1999. The service was then further expanded in the year 2000 to worldwide registrations as well as regional registrations in Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Tunisia and Yemen.
