The Egyptian Minster of Justice confirmed that the Ministry will submit during the new session of the People's Assembly several draft laws which were reviewed by the Legislation Department in the Ministry. On top of them is a draft law for intellectual property protection and competition.
The Minister stated that the most important of these laws is the one which affects the economic activity. Foremost of them is the law for intellectual property protection which was approved by the Council of Ministers in its last session. The law had been studied by a ministerial committee formed by the Council of Ministers for this purpose.
The Minister said that this draft law is distinctive in that all aspects of intellectual property protection were made in one code. This responds to the international trend in this respect, by compiling all the provisions in one legislation instead of the three existing regulations.
The Minster added that this draft law is one of the most important indications of Egypt's abiding by the requirements of participation in world market. The new draft law addresses patents, utility models topographic designs of integrated circuits geographic indications, models, industrial designs, copyrights, and plant varieties. The draft law has been prepared to meet Egypt's international obligations under the TRIPs Agreement signed in 1995.
