As of July 5, 2000 Qatar has become a member of the Berne Convention, this came after Qatar submitted the instruments of accession on April 5, 2000.
Qatar in fact will be party to the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works of September 9, 1886, as revised in Paris on July 24, 1971 and amended on September 28, 1979.
Currently the date of accession of Qatar into the International Union for the Protection of Industrial Property (Paris Union) founded under the Paris Convention is to be confirmed shortly.
With this Qatar will have to amend local laws in order to incorporate the provisions of the Berne and Paris Conventions. The benefits of good intellectual property protection will become available in this Gulf Cooperation Council Country.
