World Economic Forum at Davos: King Abdullah II Receives Abu-Ghazaleh & Senior Arab Businessmen

Chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAGO), Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, in his capacity as Chairman of the Commission on E-Business, IT and Telecoms, ICC, participated in many activities and meetings during the World Economic Forum (WEF) at Davos.

In one these, His Majesty King Abdullah II met with Chairman Abu-Ghazaleh and other senior Arab businessmen and investors who represented the Arab Businessmen Council at the WEF. His Majesty expressed His satisfaction with the constructive interaction within the Arab business community and his optimism for the resulting constructive inter-Arab cooperation. The results will lead, the King asserted, to the future we all aspire for our countries and people.

Following the meeting, Chairman Abu-Ghazaleh made statement to the Jordanian daily, Al Dustour, in which he affirmed that Jordan’s primary achievement is the trust instilled in the international community, and particularly the existing and potential investors from all over the world. The establishment of a solid and functional partnership between the public and private sectors shall enhance such achievement. The Chairman emphasized the importance of this partnership in making the two symbiotic partners become equal partners in the process of economic growth.

Mr. Abu-Ghazaleh was at the head of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) delegation to the WEF’s meetings with the heads of WTO departments. Earlier, he chaired the meeting of the ICC Commission on E-Business, IT and Telecoms (EBITT) to discuss projects planned for 2003 action programme, and to further examine the vital points to be discussed with WTO Secretary General.

On January 26th Mr. Abu-Ghazaleh participated in the special meeting of the business WEF-member organizations held during the gathering of the stakeholders of the international digital divide initiative. In that meeting, the Chairman called for the adoption of the Human Rights Declaration of IT and Telecom Needs. This important initiative will most certainly be on the agendas of future international meetings.
