New Policy of the Iranian Industrial Property Office (IIPO)
Option No. 1
Foreign applicants can file trademark application in Iran without the certified copy of home or abroad registration. On the Iranian trademark application and certificate of trademark registration we must mention "The applicant has no registration abroad".
Option No. 2
Foreign applicants can file trademark application in Iran and claim priority or prior registration abroad. However, they must provide the IIPO with certified copy of priority document or certified copy of certificate of trademark registration from abroad. If an Iranian application is based on foreign application the applicant has one year from Iranian application date to provide the IIPO with certified copy of trademark certificate of registration from the country that Iranian application was based on.
Comment:
It is up to the client to decide whether they wish to claim priority or make reference to prior registration abroad. On all orders, please let us know which option the applicant requires.
Brazil
The Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (INPI) has recently issued its Normative Act No. 150/99, providing for the adoption in Brazil, as from January 3, 2000, of the International Classification of Goods and Services for the purposes of registration of trademarks.
It is possible, however, for one who owns pending trademark applications or registrations in force classified in accordance with the old classification system to request their reclassification at once, without waiting for the corresponding granting or renewal. Among other advantages, this step will ensure that those trademarks appear in the relevant new international classes in searches made by third parties and by the trademark examiners, minimizing the risks of similar trademarks being applied for and granted therein.
The registrars as well as the rest of the participants were invited to visit the new and large premises of the Morocco Patent and Trade Mark Office. The guests were introduced to the various departments and computer systems.
