The Bahraini Ministry of Trade has seized counterfeit goods based on complaints by rightful owners against counterfeit outlets selling goods in contravention of the Trademarks Law. Most of the counterfeit products were leather articles.
Mr. Mohamed Al-Tajer, the Undersecretary for Trade and Companies' Affairs, said that the Ministry adopted a campaign to seize all counterfeit goods whether bearing well-known or locally registered marks. The campaign includes a field survey of commercial stores to assess counterfeiting in Bahrain.
Investigators will seize the counterfeit products and destroy them in compliance with Bahrain's membership to various international agreements. The Ministry called on all merchants to cooperate with the investigators - subject to severe penalties like license withdrawal.
