Increase in Official Fees for Electronic Publication of Trademarks in Saudi Arabia
12-Feb-2014 RIYADH - An increase of the official e-publication fees for all new trademark applications was announced in Saudi Arabia on January 14, 2014.
The e-publication fees for new trademarks are SR 1500 (USD 400) for local companies and SR 3000 (USD 800) for foreign companies. This compares to the previous fee of US 270 for foreign companies.
An objection has been raised by the local attorneys before the Saudi Ministry of Commerce and Industry against this increase and the difference between the fees for local and foreign companies.
In response to the complains, the Saudi Trademarks Office has sent a reply to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry confirming that the new publication fees are SR 1,500 for all applicants till February 15, 2014 (extended till February 28th).
However, some law offices filed an appeal before the Court and the case is still pending.
