KSA to Join Paris & Berne Conventions on March 2004

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) announced that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has deposited, on December 11, 2003, its instrument of accession to the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property and the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary & Artistic Works.

The Paris & Berne Conventions will enter into force, with respect to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on March 11, 2004. On that date, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will become a member of the International Union for the Protection of Industrial Property (Paris Union), founded by the Paris Convention and a member of the International Union for the Protection of Literary & Artistic Works (Bern Union) founded by the Berne Convention.

Paris Convention provides for the protection of patents, utility models, industrial designs, trademarks, service marks, trade names, indications of source or appellations of origin, and the repression of unfair competition in all its 164-member country.

As for Berne Convention, it aims to protect the right of authors in their literary and artistic works.
