The Yemeni Trademarks Office (YTO) has recently decided to merge the registration numbers of trademark registrations belonging to the former South Yemen with the current numbers allotted for the Republic of Yemen.
The decision states that all registration numbers for the former South Yemen will be given new numbers by adding 20,000 for each registration number. For example registration No. 3,333 will be 23,333.
The YTO will change the numbers at the time of renewal or recordal of any changes for these registrations without any charges. This procedure will prevent any confusion as the registration numbers of the former South Yemen have similar numbers in the whole republic of Yemen.
It is worth mentioning that former North and South Yemen were unified in 1990 to form the Republic of Yemen. The Trademarks registers were unified in 1995 and any valid registration in either part was automatically extended to cover the whole country
