Bahrain will host an international conference on intellectual property next April 2004, Bahrain Tribune reported.
The Under-secretary at the Ministry of Information, Mr. Mahmood Al Mahmood, said “holding such a conference is part of the Ministry’s efforts to advance the concepts of copyright and intellectual property rights in general among educational, commercial, economic, and technical sectors”.
“We also wish to reinforce the strategic objectives set by the Ministry in previous years in order to strengthen the gains achieved internationally in combating piracy and protecting intellectual property”, he added.
The conference will be held under the patronage of the Minister of Information, Mr. Nabeel bin Yacoub Al-Hamer, along with Phillips Morris and the London weekly magazine ‘The Economist’.
Mr. Al-Mahmood said a select number of speakers from international bodies and organizations will take part in the conference, which will focus on the achievements that are being accomplished as a result of providing optimum protection for intellectual property, and especially copyright.
Competent GCC organizations will hold work sessions to discuss the best ways to advance the concepts of intellectual property and the means of consolidating them in light of globalization resulting from international investments and world trade.
