Ruler's Court Reviews Part Two of Cyber Law in Dubai

01-Mar-2004

The text of the second and possibly the most critical component of Dubai's cyber law is with the Ruler's Court for a final review, according to a top official with the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone, the Gulf News reported.

This law relates to e-crime and stipulates the criminal aspects and penalties involved for offenders caught breaking this law, said Mr. Ahmed bin Byat, Director-General.

This follows the passage of the first part of the Emirate's Cyber Laws (the e-Commerce Facilitation Law) in 2002. The passing of the first set made Dubai one of the first states to enact cyber laws in the Middle East.

"We have incorporated a lot of details into the e-Crimes Law from practices and jurisdictions elsewhere. In fact, the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone has been spearheading the process to develop the cyber laws for the Emirates," said Mr. bin Byat.
