IP Conference on Traditional Knowledge and the Future Identity

The Sultanate of Oman will be hosting an international conference entitled "Intellectual Property on Traditional Knowledge and Future Identity" to be held on January 21-22, 2002. Organized in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the event is to be attended by high Omani officials and foreign IP experts from around the world.

The Conference will focus on various aspects of intellectual property and its effect on protection of the heritage and traditional knowledge when reflecting on the future. A senior official at the Omani Ministry of Commerce and Industry stated that the conference would result in international recognition of Oman's stand on intellectual property protection and rights that maybe gained from the Omani heritage, culture and arts.

The Sultanate of Oman has been actively working with different parties, including the WIPO, in order to improve its intellectual property laws, and has successfully issued eight laws within the last year and a half.
