As of July 15, 2001 the Egyptian Trademark Office has moved location to the New Maadi area in Greater Cairo. The new building is owned by the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, not rented as the case was in the past. This will ensure that the trademark office will not move again for quite some time. This move will assist the trademark office in implementing their modernization plan and in speeding up the trademark registration process. The Trade Registry Office currently caters for 4 million traders in Egypt and a variety of worldwide registrations.
The Ministry had been initially required to open by July 28th, which was a difficult deadline to meet. After considerable efforts on the part of the trademark office, the office reopened to visitors after reorganization on August 12, 2001. The trademark office was unable to conduct any operations during the period of relocation. All applications remained pending. Accordingly, all deadlines were deferred for the same period; the trademark office will take this into consideration. The trademark office is currently open and is functioning normally, but operations should be slightly slower due to the move.
