Realizing the threat of increased governmental involvement in the work that the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names & Numbers (ICANN) is responsible for, ICANN seeks all support and backing up to ensure the private sector leadership of the Internet.
As the global coordinator and manager of key aspects of the global Internet and related policies, ICANN believes that the private sector must make further visible efforts to support it, so that it can improve contract enforcement and provide a stable participatory environment.
ICANN must have stable, broadly distributed funding support in order to fulfill its mission. Further, ICANN should be given a multi-year extension to the existing Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Commerce, in order to enable the Internet Community, and ICANN to focus on completing key tasks.
