Copyrights and Neighboring Rights Draft Law Issued in Syria

Syria is exerting continuous efforts to modernize its intellectual property (IP) laws and regulations to comply with international conventions and treaties. Syria has started amending its current IP laws. The new copyright and neighboring rights draft law came within this context.

The new draft law was issued February 9, 2004. It will be referred to the Syrian People Assembly for discussions and endorsement. The new draft law is amending the existing Copyright Law No. 12 issued February 2001.

It is worth noting that Syria joined the Berne Convention for the protection of Literary and Artistic Works March 11, 2004.
