Under the patronage of the Yemeni Prime Minister, Mr. Abdul Kadir Bajammal, a seminar was held in Sana’a from June 9-10, 2001 in respect of intellectual property and TRIPs. The seminar was organized by the national committee for preparation and negotiation with WTO, Ministry of Industry & Trade, Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Culture in cooperation with WIPO. The subjects of the seminar were presented by a delegation from WIPO and Officials in the ministries concerned and courts.
The recommendations of the seminar concentrated on the importance of the enforceability of the IP Law and on including intellectual property laws and subjects in teaching students of the faculty of Law. In addition, emphasis was laid on training courses in this field for judges and customs officials and to facilitate the issuance of new IP laws to comply with the WTO requirements.
The seminar was followed by three-days workshops concerning copyrights and how to implement the IP laws in infringement cases.
