The Business Software Alliance (BSA) welcomed the initiative launched by Sheik Saoud Bin Hamed Al-Qasemi, the Under Secretary of Economy and Trade in UAE on establishing a forum or society for IP protection. Such forum shall include professionals and practitioners in the field of intellectual property.
The forum aims at increasing awareness of IP rights, countering any relevant infringements, convening seminars, issuing publications, cooperating and coordinating with official and international organizations, fighting software piracy in order to provide safe environment to conduct business transactions between private and public sectors’ establishments in UAE.
Sheik Saoud also stated that this initiative is based on the recognition of the enormous financial and moral damages on all economic sectors and end-users due to the usage of non-original software. The Sheik also indicated that the initiative was welcomed by several international organizations and institutions such as BSA.
He also emphasized on the major role that the sector of original software industry plays in fostering the national economy, increasing employees’ productivity and achieving prosperity.
Such initiative is a further proof of the expanding commitment by UAE for protecting creation and promoting awareness among the society of the importance of IP protection.
