The piracy crackdown in the region continues with Jordanian police raiding a computer reseller in Amman, and seizing unlicensed Microsoft software and pirated CDs.
Stealing software leads to harmful results, it has a negative effect on investments in the IT sector, which in turn reflects on jobs, wages, and tax revenues, said Jawad Al Redha, regional director of the Business Software Alliance (BSA).
Software piracy harms everyone including consumers, honest resellers, the software industry and, therefore, the national economy as a whole.
The Jordanian police raided the company after a case was filed with the Public Prosecutor, and seized computers loaded with unlicensed copies of Microsoft Windows 98, Office 97 and pirated CDs of Office 97, Windows 95 and Windows 98.
The latest case follows a series of raids throughout the Middle East region in the last few weeks and underlines the regional tough line against piracy.
Combating software theft is the proof that the Jordanian authorities fully appreciate the destructive results of intellectual property theft, and shows their strong commitment towards building an environment which Jordan's IT vision and agenda can thrive, commented Al Redha.
