A new copyright bill was recently approved by the Saudi Shura Council
(a consultative authority) and is to be submitted to King Fahd for endorsement. The protection stipulated in this 28-article bill encompasses various manifestations of art including audio-visual works and computer programs.
This protection is supported by a set of penalties ranging from the maximum of $66.756 of fines to six months of imprisonment. Furthermore, firms found guilty of copyright violation can be liable to have their activities suspended for two months.
