Ratifies Patent Cooperation Treaty
01-Jul-2003
On the 6th of June 2003, Egypt became the 121st Contracting State of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) when it deposited its instrument of ratification at WIPO. The treaty will enter into force for Egypt on the 6th of September 2003.
The ratification by Egypt means that in any international application filed on or after the 6th of September, applicants designate Egypt (country code: EG). It also means that nationals and residents of Egypt may themselves file PCT applications as of that date. As Chapter II of the Treaty will bind Egypt, in return Egypt may also be elected for the purpose of international preliminary examination.
