AGIP has recently participated in a meeting concerning the development of a new trademark online application system that is to be implemented by the Trademark Office in the United Arab Emirates. In the meeting that was held at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce in Dubai and attended by most Intellectual Property agents in the UAE, AGIP was represented by Messrs. Ma’en Al-Khen, Bayan Abu Baker, Abdelmajeed Mabrouk and Abdulla Hasayen.
The purpose of this meeting was to exchange views between AGIP and the IP agents on the several aspects of the proposed system. An overview of the new system was presented, and specialists illustrated the fields contained in the new online application form, the way it should be filled by the agent or applicant, methods of searching for trademarks, logging on protocols and security measures.
One of the main points raised was the security, and the system’s need for agents to provide the Ministry with a list of their employees, in order to give each one a username and password. From an I.T. perspective, this measure would offer more security and guarantee accountability for any mistakes.
This project will be funded through the annual subscription fees paid by the agents. One of AGIP’s suggestions was to have the application available online for our review and further comments, and in order to obtain a broader experience in all aspects of this application.
