abdullah.alordon First Jordanian IDN Launched
07-Nov-2010 AMMAN - Jordan’s National Information Technology Center (NITC) launched Jordan’s IDN ccTLD .alordon on Oct 11, 2010 in conjunction with the MENA ICT Forum which was held in Amman, Jordan. What made the launch a special one is that HM King Abdullah the Second’s website was launched as the first Jordanian IDN under عبدالله.الاردن (abdullah.alordon).
Later on, NITC opened the registration of Arabic Domain Names for governmental institutes and diplomatic missions during the period Oct 17-30, 2010 as part of the Sunrise Period. During this time, a total of 29 domain names were registered. These domains were registered through the online registration system found at www.idn.jo or نطاقات-عربية.الاردن.
After the Sunrise Period, NITC will pave the way for trademark owners – local and international – to protect their trademarks online in Arabic during the period Nov 7 – Dec 4 as part of the Landrush Period. Applications shall be dealt on first-come-first-serve basis.
