A New Era in Patent Applications in Turkey
07-Nov-2010 ANKARA - Nihat Ergun, Turkish Minister of Industry and Trade stated that the number of patent and utility model applications in the country will exceed 11000 by the end of 2010.
In a press conference to give information about the trademark, patent, geographical indication and industrial design applications of 2010, the Minister revealed that the Turkish Patent Institute is going to announce the data regarding the industrial property rights every three months hereafter.
National patent and utility model applications increased by 19.2% in the period of January – September compared to the same period of the previous year. The rate of national applications among patent and utility model applications increased up to 54.97%.
“Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister of Turkey, filed two applications before TPI in order to brand RTE which consists of the initial letters of his name. These applications will be registered in almost four months if no valid objection is raised.”
Nihat Ergun stated that Turkey has become one of the three countries in Europe where the number of trademark and industrial design applications is the highest in the recent years and reminded that this success might be considered as a result of the online applications system which has been active since 2008.
