Ministry of Industry and Trade in Kurdistan Accepts Trademark Applications

ERBIL – Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) would like to inform its clients that the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIT) in Erbil, the Capital of Kurdistan Al Iraq Region, is now taking applications for registering trademarks through its newly established Trademark Department, located at the building of the Ministry.

Such registrations cover the jurisdiction of the region only and are not necessary if trademark owners have already registered their trademarks with the Iraqi Trademark Office in Baghdad, the original registry; however, such owners are advised to provide the MIT in Erbil with certification letters issued from the Trademark Office in Baghdad to preserve their rights, noting that a meeting between the two Offices is contemplated by the end of coming November to agree on a unified mechanism for the registration process between them.
