AGIP Turkey Office Attends the Workshop: “EU Patent System and Possible Revision in the Future”
26-Jan-2011 ANKARA - Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP Turkey office attended the workshop on “European Union Patent System and Possible Revision in the future, INT MARKT 42257, organized in co-operation with the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), DG SANCO and Turkish Patent Institute (TPI) which was held in the headquarters of TOBB in Ankara on January 25, 2011.
The aim of the meeting was to inform the Turkish stakeholders about the EU and Turkish legislation on the patent system and patent litigation, their future prospect and on the experiences of the EU Member countries. Furthermore with this seminar private sector representatives, chamber representatives, representatives from professional organizations, academicians, researchers and patent attorneys came together to discuss and share views on one of the important aspect of the industrial property; the patent.
The meeting which mainly focused on the The European Patent System and its future prospect in addition to the Draft regulation on EU Patent that Competitiveness Council agreed on December 4th, 2009 and the economics of patenting, the importance of innovation and the role of patents for SMEs in Europe, witnessed the participation of Turkey Office, namely, Ms. Ozlem Ozgur Arslan (Turkey Office Executive Director) and Ms. Gizem Atasu (Turkey Office Marketing Representative).
Commenting on this meeting, Ms. Arslan said that, Turkish patent system has acquired significant achievements during the recent years thanks to the continuing efforts directed towards Turkish Patent Institute. In the year 2008, the number of patent and industrial design filings exceeded 10.000 as the first time in the history of Turkish Republic which was followed by 11.000 applications in the year 2010. As patent experts, we are fully aware that the new inventions are the major assets of our clients, however, this becomes precisely true when they are protected with patents, she added.
