A new Copyright and Neighboring Rights Law was issued in Qatar on June 8, 2002, and will be effective upon its publication in the Official Gazette. The new law that came under No.7 repeals the 1995 Law of Intellectual Works and Copyrights. It consists of 10 Chapters divided into 58 Articles, the first of which being designated to a large group of definitions related to the copyrighted types of works included in this Law.
Chapter II mainly includes listings of the copyrightable and non-copyrightable works as well as the connection between protecting the works and their issuance in Qatar. Moral and financial rights are elaborately treated in Chapter III. The same is true of restrictions on copyrights and neighboring rights, in chapter V. Chapter VIII is allocated for neighboring rights, including rights of performers, audio recording producers and broadcasting organizations.
